Robert FitzHamon, Lord of Corbeil b. ca. 1050, East Chester, England d. 10 March 1107 |
m. ca. 1084, Normandy, France "The ancient family of Fitz Hamon was derived from an ancestor, Richard Fitz Hamon, who was a son or nephew of Rollo, the first Duke of Normandy. Its representatives were in Neustria from the very beginning of the invasion of that territory by the Normans, and they were possessed of important lordships in various parts of the country under the rule of the dukes of Normandy. The house was old and illustrious and had many distinctions long before the appearance of Robert Fitz Hamon in England. Robert Fitz Hamon came from Normandy with William the Conqueror, and after the battle of Hastings settled' in Kent where he became possessed of extensive lands. ... At the siege of Calais he was wounded and as a result died in March, 1107. He married Sybil of Montgomery" (Weeks, pp. 259-260). |
