J. Michael Luther, Sr., Revolutionary War Patriot
J. Michael Luther, Sr., clearly was a Patriot of the American Revolution. Details of that service, including the likelihood of his being among the hundreds of men who crossed the Delaware with George Washington, are supported by documentation as seen below.

Service with Washington, including crossing the Delaware, and depositions for war pension
With appreciation to S. Joyce Kendall who provided the documentation.
Interesting note: The Reverend Micajah Hill mentioned in the above document who testified during the depositions is also my ancestor though I don't know if this is Reverend Micajah Hill, Sr., or Reverend Micajah Hill, Jr., as they were both alive and of practicing age during the depositions. The son of Micajah Hill, Jr. -- Jesse B. Hill -- married the great granddaughter of Michael Luther, Sr. -- Mary Ann Luther. The Hill and Luther families clearly knew one another. Jesse and Mary Ann (Luther) Hill were my great-great-great grandparents.

Mary Luther - widow's pension
Mary (Kindle) Luther was Michael's second wife. I am descended from his first wife Elizabeth. Yet, this pension shows some things:
- Michael's death date 10 October 1834 in Randolph County, North Carolina
- Michael's rank and service: Private in the Company commanded by Capt. Duval of the regiment commanded by Capt. Johnson in the Maryland militia for 7 1/2 months
