The brigade began a hard march early morning to a point 4 miles from Chancellorsville, and that night made an assault and took a line of breastworks where 250 Yankees surrendered to the 7th Regiment North Carolina after a brief furious exchange.

Junius Hill was killed leading the attack. As soon as the Brigade was reformed, they returned to the woods, now on fire, with death all around. The battle was won.

Godfrey Bischerer was in Company F of the 7th Regiment North Carolina, part of General Hill's corps, which went from South Mountain to Cashtown to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Hill's corps marched toward Gettysburg in the morning and supported General Harry Heth's division in ascertaining Yankee strength and, after a hard fight, drove the enemy from the field. The 7th Regiment moved across the field and rushed at the enemy, causing the enemy to retreat to Cemetery Hill. The Regiment came under enemy artillery fire from Cemetery Hill and spent the night behind the stone fence.

Major John Turner, Company F's former commander was wounded and captured during or after the charge. Pvt. Godfrey Bischerer and the regimental flag were also captured by Union soldiers. After the battle, Pvt. Godfrey Bischerer became a prisoner of war (POW) in Yankee camps.

After the 7th fired several volleys, the enemy broke and ran, and the 7th chased them a half a mile, capturing 30, including 2 officers.
